Get To Know The Computer Guy (I’ve been tagged!)

I’ve been tagged!

I’m normally not big on Internet meme’s. I rarely forward chain emails and if there’s a RickRoll type fad floating around, I’ll usually avoid it unless it adds some sort of pertinent substance to my life.

But the other day one of my good blogging buddies and fellow computer consultant, Eric Hamm from Motivate Thyself, tagged me to participate in such an event.

My first inclination was to laugh it off and say that it’s really not something that would fit into my blog about starting a computer business. But I thought this would give me a great opportunity to give you a glimpse at the man behind the blog. And a great opportunity for me to get to know my readers!

6 Random Facts About Your Friendly Neighborhood Computer Guy, Matt…

  1. I Play Trumpet in the Maryland Army National Guard - In fact, I’ve been playing the trumpet ever since I was a wee computer guy in 4th grade. It’s probably the only consistent activity in my life. I joined the army after high school, spent four years of service as a musician, and now I’m a part-time military musician in the National Guard.
  2. My girlfriend and I have an invisible miniature pet dog named Gigantor - Sometimes it’s great when you can revert back to the wild creative abandon you felt as a kid with your significant other.  One day, my girlfriend and I decided to make up a fake pet, since neither of us owned one.  We came up with a tiny invisible dog named Gigantor, and he’s been our loyal companion ever since.  Is this cute, or reason to be committed to a psych ward?  You be the judge.
  3. I lost my wallet in the Philippines - During my army years, while stationed in South Korea, I decided to take a vacation to the Philippines, just me and one of my army buddies.  Unfortunately, sometime while hopping Jeepney’s from Manila to Angeles City, I lost my wallet out of my back pocket (or was pick-pocketed).  Bad news for me because it had my credit cards, cash, and my military ID!  Thank god for Western Union and forgiving parents!  Luckily I also had kept my passport in my hotel room, so I was able to use that as my ID to get back to S. Korea.  It turned out to be an experience that made the whole trip that much more memorable.
  4. I Like Musicals - I’m secure enough in my masculinity to admit that I dig seeing a Broadway musical from time to time.  From Phantom of the Opera to Les Miserables, something about live theatre and music really set my geeky heart aflutter.
  5. I Love Sky Diving - Although I admittedly have only tried it once, it was the experience of a lifetime!  Call me crazy, but jumping out of a perfectly good airplane over Ocean City on a crystal clear summer afternoon is the ultimate in beauty and terror!  I plan on getting certified in sky diving in the next couple of years, based only on the awesome experience I had my first time.
  6. I’ll eat almost anything - I love food. I love trying new exotic foods.  I love spices from all over the world.  I love different textures in my mouth.  Food is much more than something that fills me up, it’s something to be appreciated and experimented with.  Watch the Pixar film Ratatouille…the way Remy describes food like music mixing in your mouth…that’s food to me!

The Rules

1. LINK TO THE PERSON WHO TAGGED YOU
2. POST THE RULES ON YOUR BLOG
3. WRITE SIX RANDOM THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF
4. TAG SIX PEOPLE AT THE END OF YOUR POST AND LINK TO THEM
5. LET EACH PERSON KNOW THEY ARE TAGGED AND LEAVE A COMMENT ON THEIR BLOG
6. LET THE TAGGER KNOW WHEN YOUR ENTRY IS UP
7. DON’T BREAK THE CHAIN (not actually a rule)

Now it’s your turn. I’m gonna break from the rules of this meme a little bit.  Because some of my most loyal readers don’t actually have blogs of their own, I’m going to give them the option of leaving six random things about themselves in the comment section of this blog.  Even if I don’t specifically tag you, feel free to tell us all 6 random things about you.  I look at my blog as a little hangout spot, and this is a great opportunity for all of us to get to know each other here.

You’re It!

Here are the 6 people that I’m tagging (the top commenters on Y.F.N.C.G.), you can either keep this going by posting it on your own blog, or simply list 6 things about yourself in the comments of this post.

Ugh…well I did this on Facebook already (although it was 16) but here goes:

    1. I don’t play any instrument. I gave up guitar after a few lessons.

    2. When I was a kid, I wanted to have ten kids. Nine girls and one boy (I have no idea what the reasoning was behind it!)

    3. I got lost in Venice, Italy my first day there. This girl Carrie and I got separated from our group while shopping and ended up in some back alley. It took us about a hour to find someone we knew!

    4. I’ve never seen “Phantom of the Opera”. Not even the movie version that came out a couple years ago.

    5. I was a Girl Scout for 13 years.

    6. I hate the noise styrofoam makes when you take it out of a box. I mean seriously, even the thought of it make my skin crawl. If I have to take something out that’s in styrofoam I cringe the entire time. What should take me a few seconds to do will take me minutes.

Thanks Renee! I like how your first 4 kind of parallel my first 4. I hate the sound styrofoam makes also, but probably not as much as you!

Liz and I have two ‘real’ dogs, but I assure you, if we didn’t, we’d have two imaginary ones. :-) Eric.

Yeah, and they are adorable too. Once I uprade my living situation to someplace bigger than a small apartment, I definitely plan on upgrading to a “real” dog too!

Dang…6 random facts about yours truly. Matt, I’m going to do my best to try and trip you up a little, because after 10 years of friendship, (yes, it has been that long, haha.) You probably already know ALMOST everything about me.

    1) I’m a daydreaming girl~I admittedly daydream more than a person should. I have a vivid imagine.

    2) I share a birthday with Paul MCartney~ That’s right, me and the Beatle are linked in the stars, both of us born on June 18th.

    3) I’d like to get married on Christmas Eve~Christmas is my all time favorite holiday and being the romantic that I’ve always been, I think it would be romantic, awesome, and totally original to be married on December 24th. Is this unrealistic? Maybe so, but I’m optimistic :-)

    4) I’m 27 with the personality of a 16 year old~ I’ve never seemed to outgrow the “teeniebopper” aspect of my mind. I enjoy reading fan magazines for the latest news on my favorite celebs and, when I really like someone, I gush about them constantly to my friends and family, sometimes to the point of annoyance, haha.

    5) Matt already knows this, but I have an identical twin sister~Her name is Faith, and she’s a minute younger than I am.

And last, but not least ::drumroll please:: I absolutely cannot stand wearing make-up, but I love wearing perfume~ That’s right, you’ll never see me primping in the mirror amist lipstick and eyeliner. Come near me with that stuff, and I’ll probably yell at you. But, I could spend hours in the prefume department at Macy’s sampling the different scents and lotions. It’s where my inner tomboy and my inner goddess meet, I suppose.

Wow, well, I think 2 and 3 are things I definitely didn’t know about you. The others, well, I had a pretty good idea! ;-) Thanks for sharing!

    1. This is geeky - but I love to memorize poems. Some of my favorites are The Raven, The Cremation of Sam McGee and The Highway Man.

    2. When I was in college I hitchhiked a couple of times. As a young Southern California Girl, I didn’t have to worry about getting a ride, but didn’t enjoy the come ones so I quit.

    3. When I was in sixth grade, I was the same height I am as an adult. Everyone said I would be really tall, but the only thing that grew was my feet.

    4. Even though I am computer illiterate, I once took a class in “Basic” computer programming and actually wrote a few programs. I earned an “A” even though I don’t remember how to do any of that stuff.

    5. I am the best singer in the world…in my mind!!!

    6. I have tried out for Jeopardy three times, The Price is Right twice and Tic Tac Doe once….but I never got called to be on the shows…

    Behind story of Gigantor’s birth.

One day, Matt was helping his talented girlfriend to cook and he whistled to call someone. His adorable girlfriend asked to Matt who he was calling and he answered he was calling his dog, the invisible tiny dog. Because he is so tiny, Matt named him “Gigantor”. Please don’t get confused wiht “chicken pore” or “chicken tower”.

Matt….is a man who has a warm romantic heart and cool logical head.

    P.S.

Matt… I am one of the top commenters also… just my comments are invisible. (I am too shy to make my comments appear here.)
