Welcome to the third edition of Computer Guy’s Corner. During the week I collect a small handful of links to useful news, reviews, and blog postings that relate to small business news, productivity, tech gossip, troubleshooting tools, industry news, or any random stuff that I find helpful, and share it with you all. Feel free to comment about any of the links and let me know your take!
The 5 Truth’s of Starting Your Own Business (smallbizbee.com) - The author lists the 5 truths that he’s learned while starting his own business. Before starting any big project, it’s a good idea to find out about as many different people’s experiences as possible. You will start to find some commonalities, but also realize that every experience is different, so you can’t have too many preconceptions.
6 Tips to Running a Part Time Business (InvestorSpot) - Great advice for those of you who are like me, trying to juggle a full time job along with a part time start-up. I really like number 5, which advises you to make sure you’re loving what you’re doing. Otherwise, what’s the point?
Ramping Up Your Start-up (The Entrepreneurial Mind) - Some suggestions on how to speed up the start-up process. Again, at the end of the article, Dr. Cornwall advocates the part-time approach to starting a business. Do I detect a theme today?
Obama’s Pro-Entrepreneur Broadband Proposal (BizBox) - What is the election of Barack Obama going to mean to the small business entrepreneur? This article argues that one positive move in favor of us work-from-home folks is Obama’s commitment to expanding broadband Internet access throughout the country. If anything, I think this show that our president elect has a very progressive view of technology and how it can help connect the country and the world, which is not a bad thing for small business.
10 Dirty Little Secrets You Should Know About Working In IT (TechRepublic) - Finally we get to some tech stuff! For those of you thinking about joining the fast paced, well paid, in-demand industry of Information Technology, take into consideration the items presented in this article. It’s not all roses and gumdrops, and it may turn out to be much different than you expected.
If you have any questions, comments, or if you just want to say hi, post a comment below or contact me directly. See you next week!
